Creating NEMA-Compliant Thermal Management Solutions

Two-circuit turbofan engine for aircraft on exhibitionIt is one thing to create and manufacture a product intended to more easily cool overheating electrical enclosures and other popular applications, but it is a completely different concept to do so in a manner that adheres to industry-wide standards. In today’s blog, the team at Noren Thermal Solutions in Taylor, TX will take a look at the thought process behind creating our products and how they follow the guidelines set forth by the National Electrical Manufacturers Association.

Industry-Wide Standards

When it comes to the creation and manufacturing of custom heat exchangers to address temperature regulation within technology, a level of quality or attainment must be met. For electrical enclosures in particular, the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) defines these standards for North America. The compliance standards address a wide range of electrical enclosure types, and defines criteria for each one. For instance, a NEMA 4X heat exchanger must be water tight and exclude, at minimum, 65 GPM of water from a 1-inch nozzle that is delivered over a distance of 10 feet or more for five minutes. Enclosures such as these are typically used outdoors on ships and docks, or in wastewater treatment plants.

Another example of a NEMA type enclosure includes NEMA 12 heat exchangers, which are designed for general purpose, indoor use to protect against dust, dirt, and dripping non-corrosive liquids. For more information about these standards, reach out to our team to learn more.

Optimizing Your Applications

At Noren, our goal is to continue to innovate and provide custom solutions for all of your thermal management concerns that also address your specific parameters. That being said, we design every product we create with NEMA standards in mind so that we can not only provide a quality-certified solution, but an optimal one to meet your specific needs. What’s more, we value our clients’ input throughout the process and encourage collaborative engineering to achieve exactly what you need. The Only UL-Certified Exchanger for HazLoc Applications

In addition to value we place on our clients, we place value in innovation as well. In fact, our team currently manufactures the only UL certified heat exchanger for ATEX and IECEx within industries that involve hazardous locations. Fields such as Oil & Gas and Aerospace often endure extremes in temperatures and other factors, making a quality thermal management product that can meet these standards difficult to obtain Our goal is to continue to grow and innovate just as we have the past 40 years and continue to work for optimal solutions, and we will not settle for anything less of satisfaction.
