When Thermal Energy Changes Phases

Indeed, some businesses take into account eco-friendliness, while others focus more on higher power densities and so on. In today’s blog, the team at Noren Thermal Solutions in Taylor, TX will look at the different ways we have managed to innovate and produce highly-optimized products, and specifically, the utilization of phase-change technology to do so.

Different States of Matter

When it comes to optimizing the function and production of an application, a lot more must be taken into account than just the output. Factors such as physical location, extremity of conditions, overall purpose, and more are needed to create an application or application accessory that not only regulates temperature effectively, but does so in a sustainable and quality manner. Because of this, the team at Noren has made it our goal to continue to innovate and create solutions for thermal management that can address a variety of circumstances and factors. To do this, we implement the use of a variety of technologies, including phase-change operations.

When we create a solution that includes phase-change technology, what we are essentially doing is utilizing a cooling fluid to transfer heat efficiently and continuously by utilizing the evaporation/phase-change process. In other words, as the fluid is exposed to the source of heat in an application, it begins to absorb it, increasing in temperature until it reaches its vaporization point. Once here, the liquid-turned-gas effect causes the matter to become less-dense, and thus makes transferring the fluid to the assembly’s heat dissipation structure – such as a heat sink – easier. Once here, the liquid-turned-gas releases the heat and it has been carrying, dropping in temperature and thus condenses back into a fluid.

Regulating Temperature Effectively

As one of our multiple technologies utilized, phase-change technology allows a simplified way of regulating thermal energy quickly and efficiently. Because the heat is transferred through a different medium (liquid to gas and back), the application itself continues to function optimally without overheating, and the method of transfer creates a continuous, eco-friendly cooling loop. What’s more, the cost of maintenance or other work becomes significantly reduced, as devices continue to function in the best way possible.
